DIY Flowers vs. Hiring a Florist

Cost effectiveness is a major draw for brides and event planners to DIY. By designing your own arrangements, will definitely save you money.  It’s a cost to potentially cut from your wedding budget versus a full-service wedding florist.  Designing your own wedding or event flowers means you have a bigger hand in selecting your colors and flowers.

If you have friends and family to assist, it’s a win/win.  DIY not only saves you money but gives you a fun day of creating personal flowers as well as centerpieces with those nearest and dearest to you.

There is nothing more satisfying than seeing your design creations.

Some additional things to consider:

  1. Time: Do you have the time to hydrate your flowers and complete your designs? Depending on the number of flower bunches you receive, it will take you several hours to process your flowers (unboxing, unwrapping, removing thorns and leaves below the water level and putting into clean water with preservative), plus an additional 4 –6 hours to let your flowers hydrate -> drink up water.  This is the most vital portion of designing.  Without this your flowers will not open up properly or last as long.
  2. Enlisting Help: Designing flowers can be overwhelming by yourself.  Enlist the help of friends and family the day you are designing your flowers.  If you have a Saturday Wedding, you will receive your flowers Wednesday.  Wednesday process and hydrate and prep any containers you will be making.  Design on Thursday, make sure all flowers including Bridal Bouquets (vases), and Vase-less arrangements (sit in tray of water) have a good water source.  Store in the coolest portion of your home, but not below 37degrees.
  3. Friday—Check everything. Flowers drink a lot, refill water as needed.  This is the day to get a manicure!
